Ajjora Twin Waterfalls 3-Day Itinerary

 

Ajjora Twin Waterfalls is a stunning natural attraction located in the Wolaita Zone (Boloso Bombe Woreda) of the Southern Ethiopian Region. The two waterfalls, Ajecho (210 meters) and Sokei (170 meters), cascade down a single cliff, making it unique.

This 3-day itinerary mainly covers the waterfall and the surrounding natural and cultural attractions of Wolaita and the Southern Region.

Starting point for visiting Ajjora Twin Waterfalls: Wolaita Sodo

 

Day 1: Ajjora Twin Waterfalls and Nature View

  • Morning drive to Wolaita Sodo/Areka: Depart from Addis Ababa or Hawassa and arrive at the capital of Wolaita, Sodo, or the nearby town of Areka. Sodo is located about 300 km from Addis Ababa.
  • Afternoon excursion to Ajora Falls: Drive from Sodo (68 km) or Boloso Bombe (20 km) to the falls (usually requires a 4×4 vehicle or a motorbike).
  • Final visit to the falls: Visit Ajecho and Sokei. Take photos, go down to see the water collection point. The area is dense forest and home to a variety of birds.
  • Overnight stay: Overnight at a hotel in Sodo or Areka town, Wolayta.

Day 2: Nature, forest and lakeside exploration

  • Evening Wolayta Cultural Night: Visit a Wolayta cultural restaurant or cultural center in Sodo town and taste local food and drinks.

Day 3: Cultural Heritage and Monuments

  • Morning Wolayta People Monument: Visit the Wolayta People Monument in Sodo town. Get a brief introduction to Wolayta culture and history.
  • Afternoon Local Market Tour: Visit the main market in Sodo to observe the daily life of Wolayta and buy local products such as kocho (rice).
  • Late Departure: Travel from Wolayta Sodo to Addis Ababa or another destination.

 

Useful Tips:

  • Best Time to Visit: Although the waterfalls are at their full power during the summer months (July to September), the road is most comfortable after the summer.
  • Transportation: It is best to use a four-wheel drive (4×4) or a Bombay Bajaj to reach the waterfall area.
  • Cultural Politeness: It is advisable to respect the cultural etiquette of the local community and ask permission before taking photographs.
