  1. Trip Planning and Preparation

Since the Melka Karaba Falls (in Gedeo) are located in a remote area, the trip requires careful planning.

Travel Center Dilla: Serves as the starting point for a tour of the Gedeo Zone.

  1. Obtain local knowledge: – From the Dilla City Administration or the Gedeo Zone Culture and Tourism Office, check the exact location (kebele) of the waterfall and the local conditions. Asking the name of the waterfall in the local language of Gedeo will help you find the right place.
  2. Hire a guide: – Hire a local guide who knows the route to the waterfall well and communicates with the local community through Dilla. Since the route to the waterfalls in Gedeo is difficult and passes through private coffee plantations, a guide is a must.
  3. Transportation: Use a sturdy 4WD vehicle to travel to the nearest rural kebele. Make sure your vehicle is ready for the journey, as off-roading is common.
  4. Hiking and Safety: The descent from the car park to the waterfall is a long and steep walk, so be careful. Wear grippy hiking boots.
