The Sirso and Berso twin waterfalls are among the most remarkable natural attractions in the Basketo Zone. Both waterfalls descend from the same cliff edge in the same direction, distinguished by their unique formation and majestic beauty.

  • Sources: The Sirso Waterfall originates from the Sirso River, which rises in the Awra Sostageze Delba Kebele. The Berso Waterfall originates from the Berso River, which springs from the base of the Geze Ayma Mountains.
  • Positioning: The distance between the two waterfalls is approximately 400 meters. A few kilometers downstream, both rivers merge to form the Sanka River, which subsequently joins the Usno River and flows into the Omo River.

The unique characteristics of the Sirso and Berso twin waterfalls include:

  • Flow Dynamics: The Sirso waterfall flows by clinging to the cliff face, while the Berso waterfall features a unique drop, leaping approximately 10 meters out from the cliff before descending.
  • Height: Sirso stands at 130 meters, while Berso is over 100 meters high. Their proximity on the same cliff edge makes the area truly exceptional.
  • Aesthetics: The Berso waterfall, in particular, creates a captivating view as sunlight hits the spray, forming rainbows.
  • Ecological Wealth: The forest at the base of the waterfalls serves as a sanctuary for various wildlife, birds, and indigenous plants, enhancing the natural beauty of the site.

  • Morning (07:30 – 08:30): A short trip from Laska town to Zaba Kebele.
  • Morning (08:30 – 09:30): Visit the taller Sirso Waterfall first and take in the surrounding natural atmosphere.
  • Late Morning (09:30 – 11:30): A 400-meter hike to the Berso Waterfall to observe its unique flow and take photographs.
  • Lunch (11:30 – 12:30): Return to Laska town to conclude the trip with a traditional lunch.

Tips for Visitors

  • Best Time to Visit: 08:00 to 11:00 AM is recommended. Sunlight hitting the mist creates stunning rainbows.
  • Safety Precautions: Due to constant spray, rocks near the base are slippery; please wear appropriate hiking shoes and move with caution.
  • Preparation: It is recommended to carry sufficient drinking water and light snacks for the half-day trip.
