- Itinerary (2 days)
As climbing Mount Delo requires a certain level of fitness, it is best to do the trek in two days.
Day 1: Kelle Town – Base of the Mountain
- Morning: Depart from Kelle, the capital of the Kore Zone, and start your trek to the entrance of the mountain.
- Afternoon: Start your trek by passing through the Kore ethnic villages at the base of the mountain. The area is lush and the road is pleasant, as it is a place where Amaro coffee is grown.
- Evening: Set up a tent at the foot of the mountain or at a suitable location higher up. (Note: There are no hotels in the area, so it is mandatory to bring camping gear).
Day 2: Trek to the peak and back
- Morning (11:00 AM): Start trekking to the peak before sunrise. Watching the sunrise from the peak as the light falls on the lakes is a unique experience.
- Morning: Reach the Peak of Delo Mountain. Stay here for a few hours, taking photos and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
- Afternoon: Trek back down to Kele town. Arrive in Kele town in the evening and rest.
Useful tips for the trip
- Guide and protection: Since the mountain is vast and the paths can be slippery, it is necessary to obtain permission from the Kele town’s Culture and Tourism Office and hire a local guide.
- Cold protection: Don’t forget to bring a thick jacket, gloves, and a hat as it can be very cold at the top of the mountain.
- Food and water: There are no shops on the mountain, so bring enough water and energy-giving foods (such as bread, honey, nuts) for two days.
- Shoes: Wear sturdy hiking boots that can handle rocky and steep terrain.
