Heritage Research, Conservation, and Development Directorate
We are the custodians of Southern Ethiopia’s legacy. This directorate is responsible for identifying, registering, studying, preserving, and developing the tangible and intangible heritage of the region’s nations, nationalities, and peoples.

- Conservation: Safeguarding the heritage of the region’s diverse communities.
- Museum Management: Establishing and modernizing museums to enhance their political, social, and economic benefits.
- World Heritage Liaison: Managing the registration and protection of sites recognized as World Heritage.

We monitor and support a wide range of institutions, including:
- Accommodation: Resorts, hotels, lodges, motels, pensions, and guest houses.
- Dining & Leisure: Restaurants, nightclubs, and recreational boat operators.
- Logistics: Tour associations, travel agencies, and tourist transport providers.
