Bololosa Waterfall is one of the few natural water attractions in the Gedeo Zone, and is particularly attractive to the eye due to its location within the zone’s unique Agroforestry system.

  1. Detailed Description of Bololosa Waterfall
  • Location: Bololosa Waterfall is located in the Gedeo Zone, Southern Ethiopia. The waterfall is located in the highlands of the zone and is surrounded by dense coffee and tea forests.
  • Special Features:
    • Ecology: The waterfall is beautiful due to the surrounding Gedeo traditional Agroforestry system. This system involves growing coffee and tea under the shade of large trees, so the waterfall is surrounded by a constant green environment.
    • Beauty: Although not as big as the larger national waterfalls, Bololosa is a source of entertainment and beauty for the locals and visitors. The waterfall cascades over the rocks in a tranquil setting.
  • Visiting Value: For a tour plan in the Gedeo zone, Bololosa can be combined with the Stele Fields, a nature and heritage tour.

This plan includes the main attractions of Gedeo with Bololosa as the center.

Starting City: Dilla

Day 1

  • Arrival and Nature:-Travel from Addis Ababa to Dilla. Hiring a guide to Bololosa Waterfall. Enjoy the lush greenery around the waterfall, take a break and understand how the coffee agroforestry system works.
  • Afternoon: Visit the nearby Basura Tombs and visit the ancient ruins. Overnight in Dilla or Yirgachefe.

Day 2

  • Heritage, Culture and Coffee:- Morning: Visit the largest collection of stone monuments in Africa, the Tshelba Tutiti Stone Monuments. Then proceed to Tuto Fela, home to the human-shaped statues.
  • Afternoon: Visit Yirgachefe and participate in the traditional coffee brewing ceremony. Then return to the city of origin.

III. Tips for visiting

  • Best time to visit: Bololosha is at its greenest after the rainy season (September to December).
  • Guide: Since the waterfalls and stone monuments are located in rural areas, it is essential to hire a guide who is familiar with the local roads and history.
  • Transportation: A 4×4 vehicle is recommended for exploring the rural areas of Gideon.
  • Footwear: Appropriate, non-slip footwear is required for the waterfall area.
