Murulle Controlled Hunting Area
Murulle is a designated sustainable conservation area that uses regulated, scientific hunting permits to combat illegal poaching and generate income for the region.
- Location: Borders the Dassanech and Nyangatom districts near Omo National Park, featuring vast grasslands and dense riverine forests along the Omo River.
- Wildlife: Noted for Greater Kudu, African buffaloes, warthogs, zebras, lions, leopards, and over 300 bird species.
- Socio-Economic Impact: Revenue generated from regulated hunting and photo safaris is utilized to build local clinics, schools, and clean water wells. Luxury eco-lodges (like Murulle Lodge) operate along the riverbanks.
Itinerary via Arba Minch (5 Days / 4 Nights)
- Day 1: Drive from Addis Ababa via Butajira/Hosanna to Arba Minch. Overnight in Arba Minch.
- Day 2: Drive from Arba Minch through Konso to Turmi. Overnight in Turmi.
- Day 3: Drive from Turmi to Murulle in a strong 4WD. explores the Omo River loop and view wildlife around Murulle Lodge. Overnight at the lodge or campsite.
- Day 4: Morning nature walks for bird and wildlife viewing. Afternoon visit to the nearby Karo villages (Dupa or Kolcho), world-famous for their elaborate body painting. Return to Turmi for overnight stay.
- Day 5: Return drive to Arba Minch or Jinka, and fly/drive back to Addis Ababa.
