Lekula Hot Springs
Lekula Hot Springs is a remarkable natural attraction located within Omo National Park, highly favored by wellness and adventure travelers.
Features and Natural Properties
- Location: Located inside Omo National Park, not far from the park headquarters at Mui. It is surrounded by lush bushes and rocky terrain.
- Water Temperature: The water emerges from multiple small underground springs at a very high temperature. Caution is advised near the source.
- Healing Properties: Rich in minerals like sulfur, the local communities believe the waters possess therapeutic properties for skin diseases and muscle aches.
- Bathing Areas: Further down from the main source, the water cools to a comfortable temperature, allowing visitors to enjoy a natural spa experience.
Wildlife Importance
- Mineral Lick: The springs serve as a vital source of minerals for wildlife. Elephants and various antelope species frequently gather here to drink the water and lick the mineral-rich soil. This makes it an excellent vantage point for tourists to view wildlife up close during mornings and evenings.
Itinerary (4 Days / 3 Nights)
- Day 1: Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka. Visit the South Omo Museum. Overnight in Jinka.
- Day 2: Drive from Jinka through South Ari to Omo National Park. Spend the day relaxing and swimming in the therapeutic waters of Lekula. Overnight camping at the designated site near Lekula.
- Day 3: Visit nearby Ari villages to admire the women’s pottery skills and beautiful hand-painted wall decorations on their houses. In the afternoon, visit local waterfalls like Ergeno or Kamist. Return to Jinka for overnight stay.
- Day 4: Visit the Jinka market (if Monday or Thursday) and fly back to Addis Ababa in the afternoon.
