  • Location: Situated at an elevation of 1,730 meters above sea level. It is highly accessible to visitors as it is located along the road leading to the Woreda center, Darba.
  • Geography: It distinguishes itself from other rocks by its flat, plateau-like shape, rising 3 meters above the ground. The rock is 6 meters wide and 13 meters long, covering a total area of 78 square meters.
  • Spectacular View: Because the rock is on elevated ground, it offers views of the Rift Valley, Lake Abaya, and the surrounding lush coffee plantations.

Unique Features and Tourism Potential

  • Cultural Significance: For generations, the local community has used this flat rock as a surface for drying barley, coffee, and other grains. Today, it is protected as a symbol of cultural strength and resilience.

Morning: Travel to Moltse

  • 02:30 AM: Depart from Kele, the capital of the Kore Zone, and head toward Sarmale Woreda.
  • Hiking: After parking your vehicle, the walk to the rock is short and the area is refreshing.

Morning: At Moltse Natural Rock

  • Closely observe the flat formation of the rock.
  • Take unique photos using the rock as a backdrop.
  • Speak with local guides to learn about the rock’s historical use (as a grain dryer) and its cultural significance.

Afternoon: Return

  • Daytime: Return to Kele city, or proceed to Sarmale Woreda to visit the Ugo-Ugulo Cave and stay overnight there.
  • Bonus: On the way, you can visit nearby Kore coffee farms to observe the traditional coffee brewing process.
